top 8 – food-tastic sites of the week

Who doesn’t love food? If by some off chance, you don’t. Please stop reading because this post will probably not appeal to you in the least. Weekly, I search for great recipes, but also basic information about food, spices, cooking methods. My boyfriend and I are always trying to top our last successful meal. Sure, we have our favorites, but usually we make something different 2-3 times a week. I wanted to share some articles, photos and sites I enjoy with you this week.

100 Calories of Veggies

1. Summer fills my head with ideas for new recipes and some awesome veggies to saute. I enjoyed these photos of 100 calories servings of Summer veggies. Take a peek 🙂

Delicious Days

2. Delicious Days was one of Time Magazine’s 50 Coolest Websites. And I find it pretty cool myself. I’m loving the sleek design, but also the detailed posts about a variety of tasty treats. So deliciously described, you can almost taste them through your computer screen. Be sure to check out the favorites as there are some keepers there as well!

Cake Journal

3. I took a cake decorating class with my mom and sister last month and found it’s a pretty fun, but expensive creative outlet. I ran across Cake Journal recently and really love the detailed how-to’s and great recipes. Also, the decorating skills are pretty impressive.

Chocolate & Zucchini

4. Chocolate & Zucchini has been one of my faves for a while. The fun idioms are like a history lesson in cooking. I also enjoy the desktop calendar wallpapers. I hope you enjoy them too!

2. While doing research, I ran across this article on Family Circle, 31 day to a healthier you. Usually the suggestions are rubbish with a dash of ridiculous mixed in, but I actually found this one useful.

3. As a designer, I’m a sucker for unique invitations. So when a friend mentioned Minted, I made a point of checking it out this week. And… I love it! An eclectic selection of numerous invites with fresh designs will keep me coming back for more.

Broken Secrets


4. Broken Secrets isn’t a gossip site, but it does reveal some interesting secrets such as why aluminum foil is shiny on one side and even Disney movie secrets. Its a good read to feed your curiosity.

1. I’m always looking for inspiring websites and the Inspiralist is like a triple chocolate fudge iced cake! Described as directory of creative sources, I love the visuals, but hope the site can expand very quickly. Bonus: Inspirations are sorted by design elements, resources, color, type, etc.

National Geographic's Daily Dozen


2. Who doesn’t love National Geographic? The Daily Dozen a is selection of twelve photos published monthly in their magazine. Grab a little world perspective.

Blackbird Pie


3. Twitter Media developed Blackbird Pie, a professional way to capture specific tweets for blog posts or websites. Please note you’ll need a tweet url, not the whole Twitter account for an isolated screen shot. You’ll be given the html code once you bake it.

Chris Brogan Social Media Etiquette


4. Huge fan of Chris Brogan and The Insider’s Guide to Social Media Etiquette. He touches upon appearance, friending, conversation, disclosure, promoting, content production and how sharing is caring. Simple do’s and don’ts of the Social Media world all in on place for easy reference.

I was very curious to see on average Jacksonvillians spend $110 on purchases and Five Guys is one of the most frequented restaurants. 1. Save the words is a fun little site about well.. words! The fun part is adopting a word. Mine for today is sinapistic (consisting of mustard). Bonus: registration is simple.


2. Out of Print Clothing brings classic books to life again with awesome tees! I’d love this To Kill A Mockingbird one!


3. Quora, word is spreading fast about this social media site. Ask a question, any question and give answers to questions that have been asked already on topics you’re interested in. I have a feeling this site will take up a lot of my time in the near future.


4. Offerpop debuted this week as a way to engage fans on Facebook and Twitter with unique contests and engagement ideas. If you have fewer than 500 fans or followers, this product is free. Its a great way to get your fans involved in connecting. Continue reading
